The municipality was first mentioned in a written record that dates back to 1230. Malé Hoštice covered an area of 591 ha when it joined the Czechoslovak Republic in 1921. It had 1,056 inhabitants, 137 residential buildings, 2 village pubs, 3 shops, a brickyard of F. Kašný, 2 farmhouses Gellhorn and Komenda. In the past, the area of the municipality included a small village Pusté Jakartice. In 1970 Pusté Jakartice joined the Opava district and became its independent town quarter.
