The first written evidence of the municipality dates back to 1349. The municipality lies in the northern part of the Opava district near the Polish border. A legend of Strahovice talks about a bottomless swamp called Timeless Mine that swallowed a castle. The only thing thatʼs left of villagers and castle's buzzing life is a ticking of a clock that you can still hear even today. The swamp has been turned into a drinking water reservoir.
