Velké Hoštice lies near the left bank of the river Opava approx. 5 km east of Opava. The municipality has a long and interesting history. The area of Velké Hoštice was settled for the first time in 6,000 years BC. The prehistory of Velké Holeštice is captivating. Throughout ages, the area was settled by people of the Stroke-ornamented ware culture, the Moravian-painted ware culture, and the Baden culture, people of Lusatian culture and Silesian culture. Signs of a Celtic settlement, Roman settlement, and settlement from the Migration period were found in the area as well. Archaeologists found evidence of a Slavic village that dates back to the 11th century. The area has been consistently settled since the 11th century.
